Why sector matters for insider buying

Insider buying is easier to read next to its own sector. Company officers know their industry's cycle better than the market's. When insiders at several industrials companies buy in the same month, the buying points at the industry, which the same number of purchases spread across unrelated industries would not.

Only purchases (SEC Form 4 transaction code P) count. Grants, option exercises and shares withheld for tax are left out: they are pay, not a decision to buy, and counting them would rank sectors by payroll.
