Connect InsiderAlpha to Claude
Claude adds remote MCP servers through its own settings UI, so there is no config file to edit. You paste the server URL, Claude discovers the rest, and a browser window takes you through InsiderAlpha sign-in. The one field that trips people up is the optional OAuth client ID and secret under Advanced settings: leave both empty, because our authorization server registers clients automatically and there is no secret to paste.
Server URL: https://mcp.insideralpha.ai/mcp. You need an InsiderAlpha account. Sign up free if you do not have one, then follow the steps below.
Setup in Claude
5- Open Customize, then Connectors
On a Pro or Max plan this lives under Customize in Claude settings. On Team and Enterprise an Owner adds it once for the organization under Organization settings, then Connectors, then Add, then Custom, then Web.
- Click the plus button and choose Add custom connector
- Paste the InsiderAlpha server URL
https://mcp.insideralpha.ai/mcp
- Leave Advanced settings empty
Claude offers an optional OAuth Client ID and Client Secret here for servers that need pre-registered credentials. InsiderAlpha does not. Our server advertises client ID metadata document support and accepts dynamic client registration, and it authenticates clients with PKCE rather than a secret, so filling these in is more likely to break the connection than help it.
- Click Add, then sign in with your InsiderAlpha account
A browser window opens for sign-in. Approve the scopes you want. Research access is granted by default; portfolio and trading are separate opt-ins.
Claude troubleshooting
4Failure modes specific to this client, and what is actually going on.
| What you see | Why, and what to do |
|---|---|
| The Add button asks for a Client ID and Client Secret | Those fields are optional and InsiderAlpha does not use them. Leave both blank. If you already saved a value there, remove the connector and add it again with the fields empty. |
| Claude asks me to sign in again after it worked for weeks | Access tokens last one hour and renew silently for up to thirty days. If you disconnected the session under MCP and AI Access, or thirty days passed without use, the renewal stops and Claude prompts a fresh sign-in. That is the revoke path working as intended. |
| I am on the free plan and cannot add a second connector | Claude limits free accounts to one custom connector. This is a Claude plan limit, not an InsiderAlpha one. |
| Trading tools appear in the list but every call is refused | Every tool is advertised to every client no matter which scopes were granted, and the scope is checked when a tool is actually called. Turn on AI trading under MCP and AI Access first, then reconnect so the consent screen can grant the trading scope. |
Good to know
- Custom connectors work on Claude web, Claude Desktop, Cowork and the mobile apps.
- On Team and Enterprise plans only an Owner can add the connector. Members then open Customize, then Connectors, and click Connect to sign in individually.
What the server exposes
19 tools in total: 14 read-only research, market and portfolio tools, plus 5 that act on a connected broker account and are switched off unless you explicitly enable them. The full list, the scopes and the rate limits are the same whichever client you use, so they live in one place: the MCP server reference.
Setting up a different client
Claude setup steps verified against Anthropic support: About custom connectors (remote MCP) on 2026-08-09. Claude controls its own interface and can change it without notice, so if a menu name here does not match what you see, trust their documentation over ours and tell us.
InsiderAlpha returns SEC filing data and research output. It is informational and is not investment advice, and nothing it returns is a recommendation to buy or sell any security. You are responsible for every order placed from your own account.
